Reading: Leviticus 1-4 (ESV)
These chapters provide a wonderful glimpse into the sacrificial system of ancient Israel. What’s striking to me is the depth of detail involved in the whole process. It was detailed to say the least. It’s interesting to me that in our culture today we are so far removed from the personal nature of the process. I understand we live under the once-and-for-all sacrifice of Christ, but we still have need to seek forgiveness. The Old Testament system was so much more hands-on than it is today and I wonder if we’ve lost something in the process today. The bottom line, for me at least, is to be more aware of my personal responsibility in the process. When I seek forgiveness I need to fully invest (that laying on of hands nature in the process). It’s an interesting thought; one I need to dwell on more.
